Glenrothes, UK, June 27, 2022 – Leviton announced today that its cable factory in Glenrothes, Scotland has reached a major milestone, with 50 years supporting customers in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The carbon neutral facility serves as the Leviton Network Solutions EMEA headquarters, where it manufactures high-performance fiber optic and copper cabling and make-to-order pre-terminated assemblies.
“There have been many changes in the past 50 years, but today, as part of Leviton’s Network Solutions Division, we continue to produce innovative cabling solutions for data centers, businesses, hospitals, schools, and government agencies,” said Ian Wilkie, managing director of Leviton Network Solutions EMEA business unit. “We are very proud to have played a role in Leviton’s remarkable history and look forward to many more years of connecting networks throughout the world from our location in Glenrothes, Scotland.”
In 1972, the manufacturing facility was founded as Brand-Rex Limited, a joint venture between the US based Brand-Rex Corporation and British Enkalon to manufacture computer cabling. Leviton acquired Brand-Rex in 2015, solidifying its ability to support customers globally as a single source for complete end-to-end cabling systems.
In 2011, the Scotland facility became the first data communications factory to achieve carbon neutrality, with BSI PAS 2060 verification. And in 2017, Leviton opened a new Data Centre Factory at the facility to make custom configurable pre-terminated cables and cassettes for rapid delivery.
As part of the half-century milestone, Leviton is forging long-term alliances with the local community:
- Leviton is supporting the Muirhead Outreach Project, a Glenrothes-based charity that works with young people and their families to keep them together through difficult times.
- Leviton is supporting Auchmuty High School with the Developing Young Workforce initiative.
- The company is taking part in the Great Nurdle Hunt, which combs beaches for plastic pellets that harm ocean wildlife.
