History


1900s- 1920s

Isidor Leviton founds the company in New York City in 1906. Leviton originally makes mantle tips for gas lighting, then expands to produce switches, outlets, and light sockets. By the end of the 1920s, we offer more the 550 different electrical devices.

1930s- 1970s

Leviton acquires several more companies, including American Insulated Wire Company in 1937, adding wire, cable, and cords products to its offering. The company expands to offer more lighting and electrical technologies throughout the middle of the century.

1980s

The United States sees the deregulation of the telecommunications industry, ending AT&T’s telephone monopoly. As a result, Leviton Telcom division forms in 1985 in Seattle Washington, USA, to support high-speed communications.

1998

Leviton enters the fiber optic connectivity market, investing in innovative connector technology through the acquisition of Northwest Fiber Optic Technologies.

2000

Following the acquisition of Northwest Fiber Optic Technologies, Leviton Telcom is renamed Leviton Voice & Data.

2002

We launch the highly successful EXTREME™ Category-Rated Copper System, which include innovative jacks with patented Retention Force Technology.

2004

Leviton acquires Fiber Management Systems and its portfolio of products, which includes LightSpace™ enclosures — still used today by the U.S. Department of Defense.

2006

Leviton acquires Fiber Connect Incorporated, a Chicago-based provider of high-speed data center fiber optic solutions, including pre-terminated make-to-order cable assemblies.

2007

Leviton Voice & Data becomes Leviton Network Solutions, reflecting the expanded offerings of copper and fiber connectivity, power distribution, cable management, and data center solutions.

2008

We introduce the industry’s first third-party verified component-rated Category 6A Copper System under the eXtreme brand, supporting high-speed 10GBASE-T networks.

2010

Leviton offers the industry’s first 24-fiber MTP® cabling system (OPT-X™ Unity) for data center network migrations to 100 gigabits per second and beyond.

2013

The OPT-X™ HDX fiber platform becomes available for data centers requiring higher densities and better space utilization in racks and cabinets.

2014

Leviton introduces the award-winning ATLAS-X1™ Premium Copper System, offering tool-free terminations and the same jack form factor from Cat 5e to Cat 8.

2015

Leviton acquires UK-based Brand-Rex, a leading network cabling manufacturer. It becomes the European headquarters for Leviton Network Solutions. The Glenrothes, Scotland facility was the one of the first to achieve carbon neutral status, in 2011.

2017

Leviton opens a Data Center Factory at its Glenrothes, Scotland facility, providing customers across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia with custom pre-terminated cabling and cassettes, with rapid delivery.

2018

Leviton expands its popular ATLAS-X1 platform by introducing its end-to-end Category 8 Cabling System — verified by third-party labs and supporting up to 40 Gb/s networks.

2018

Leviton acquires a Data Center Factory in Florida, USA, extending our production capacity for quick-ship fiber and copper cable assemblies.

2020

Leviton acquires Berk-Tek, a leading U.S. copper and fiber cable manufacturer. The acquisition cements Leviton Network Solutions as a single-source manufacturer of end-to-end systems for customers around the world.

2021

Berk-Tek celebrates 60 years of cable manufacturing, providing high-performance cabling for enterprise and data center networks from its Pennsylvania and North Carolina factories.

2022

Leviton Celebrates 50 Years of UK Cable Manufacturing. The Network Solutions facility in Glenrothes, Scotland reaches its “Golden” Anniversary, supporting customers in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

2023

Leviton releases 8 global copper and fiber systems. These globally available systems broaden Leviton’s ability to service multinational businesses with consistent global performance, support, and product offerings.

2024

Leviton acquires PRISM Data Centre Solutions (DCS) Limited, a leading manufacturer of network enclosures. UK-based PRISM DCS adds network rack, data and server cabinets to Leviton’s system offering for enterprise and data center customers.
